SALVAGED-Drawings from the Nelson Foreshore
An exhibition of work by RONETTE PICKERING - 23 July to 16 August This is a series of drawings depicting organic objects such as shells and seaweed, gathered mainly from Ruby Bay beach. These objects no longer fulfil their original purpose and are broken or distressed and so present more interesting graphic possibilities than they may have done originally.
As beaches like Ruby Bay increasingly succumb to efforts to protect private properties from erosion, they become less wild, more cultivated, often less accessible and no longer so attractive for meandering, scavenging and dreaming. These drawings pay homage those wild and windswept beaches we remember from childhood.

TASHI DELEK TIBET! A group exhibition by Cally Stockdale, Dominique de Borrekens, Simon Stockdale, Norbu Wangdu and Anahata Ishaya
An exhibition with a difference begins 25 July. Dominique de Borrekens' sculptural installation sits alongside photography by Cally and Simon Stockdale, Tibetan photographer Norbu Wangdu and painter Anahata Ishaya. Simultaneously, there will be workshops and events for public participation. The exhibition will run between 25 July and 17 August. It has been named Tashi Delek Tibet, meaning long live Tibet. A te Reo translation would be something like Tautoko Tibet. The exhibition takes place at the beginning of the Bejing Olympics which has brought Tibet to the media's attention. Rather than a confrontational political stance, this show wishes to celebrate and reflect Tibetan life and culture and to introduce our Nelson community to some of it. Like Thai and Cambodian cultures, Tibetan culture is strongly connected to Buddhism but the practice of meditation as a method to enhance awareness and improve our living can be very helpful to people of many different spiritual faiths or backgrounds.
